Whole Person Healthcare

Definition: caring for your body as a dynamic, interconnected system that is informed by its environment.

Hi! I’m Dr. Katy.

I am a naturopathic doctor and acupuncturist.

I provide whole-person healthcare.

This means looking at your body in the context of who you are, where you’re coming from, and what your goals are.

HOW DOES THIS WORK?

I listen carefully to your story and come up with a treatment plan that is focused and manageable.

The tools I use include:

This individualized approach encourages you to actively participate in your health goals, gives you space to feel heard, and gets you on the path to feeling your best.

Kind Words

  • “Dr. Katy Morrison is an active listener, respectful, attentive, and open. She has created a safe environment in which I can share my concerns about my life and health with her. Over the many years I have received acupuncture from her, Dr. Katy and I are able to connect more subtly, and intuitively. We have become a real team. I feel lucky and blessed to have her as my health practitioner.”

  • “Dr. Katy is a truly gifted healer with a keen scientific mind that beautifully supports her intuitive and compassionate nature. I felt instantly comfortable talking about what ailed me both physically and spiritually and feel certain she is holding a vision for health and balance in all areas as I traverse through perimenopause and work to be stronger in the years ahead. While Five-Element Acupuncture is more intense than other modalities of acupuncture that I've experienced in the past, Dr. Katy is so right on with her diagnosis that I feel the medicinal effects of her treatments almost instantaneously. If you are new to the area or looking to diversify your health care options, I can't recommend Dr. Katy more strongly.”

FAQs

  • I do not bill insurance directly, and payment is due at the time of your appointment. However, I can provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. You’ll want to check whether your plan covers out-of-network services for naturopathic medicine and/or acupuncture.

It is important to me to be able to work directly with my patients to support their health needs and goals. This direct relationship allows us to work together to craft an individualized plan that works for your life. Taking insurance would mean that I work for the insurance companies, who would then have a say in what types of work we can do together.

  • I have a special focus on the following areas:

Women's and hormonal health issues including fertility and preconception care, perimenopause and menopause, painful periods (PMS/PMDD), irregular periods, PCOS, thyroid issues, prenatal adjunctive care, and postpartum care for mothers.

Digestive issues including constipation, diarrhea, GERD, IBS/IBD, and gas/bloating.

Mental health issues including anxiety, depression, insomnia, and burnout.

  • I provide adjunctive integrative healthcare, meaning the care I provide is meant to supplement any primary care services you require. I request that my patients establish and maintain a relationship with a primary care provider.

Primary care has developed a very specific definition and function. Due to the way naturopathic medical licensure is structured in the State of Maine, there are certain required functions of primary care that we are unable to fill. These functions include hospital admission privileges and limitations around the medications we can prescribe.

So, while we can often be the primary point of contact along the journey to figuring out a health issue, we are unable to technically act as primary care providers as defined by most insurance companies.

  • That depends! Many people get the best results when they come in regularly at the beginning of our work together.

That could look like visits every 2-4 weeks for the first three to six months. This gives us time to establish your care plan, make sure you are moving in the right direction with some good momentum, and make tweaks as needed as we progress in our work together.

As you're feeling better, we generally space the visits further apart.

  • While I don’t specialize in pediatrics, I will occasionally see children over the age of 5. We can use gentle, non-insertive acupuncture techniques that can help with a variety of concerns.

I refer out to other providers for requests to assist with childhood vaccines.

  • Yes! In many cases, labs are part of the care plan. Depending on your insurance plan, some of the labs may even be covered.

I also work with several cash-based labs that offer competitive pricing. I can always provide price quotes before ordering lab work if you would like.

  • If you’re not sure, please contact us to ask about this!

If you are experiencing any of the following, please do NOT come into the clinic:

    Fever
    Cough
    Shortness of breath
    Sudden gastrointestinal upset
Sudden loss of taste or smell
Positive COVID-19 test within 10 days of your appointment
    Known recent exposure to COVID-19

If you have experienced any of the above, call us at (207) 466-4888 and we can discuss a plan to either do your visit via telehealth or reschedule your appointment.

It is important to me to minimize the spread of any contagious illness in my office. If you are experiencing cold or flu symptoms that are not related to COVID-19, I will ask that you wear a mask during our appointment. I have plenty of extras at my office.

I thank you in advance for your cooperation!
